Building your creator identity

Your name, photo, banner, and tone should agree with each other. People decide if you look intentional before they decide if you are good.

Evergreen

Make the same person show up everywhere

A creator identity is the set of choices a stranger can recognize in a thumbnail, a profile, and the first sentence. If your Twitch name, TikTok handle, and YouTube banner tell three stories, you are making people do extra work.

You do not need a full brand deck. You need a readable name, a face or mark that still works as a tiny circle, and a way of talking you can keep on a tired Thursday.

The pieces that actually matter

Do these in order. Color palettes can wait until the name is settled.

  • Name: say it out loud. If you have to spell it every time, it is fighting you.
  • Handle: match the name on the platforms you care about. Grab the closest clean version, not a pile of underscores.
  • Photo: face, high contrast, no tiny text. It has to survive a 40 pixel circle.
  • Banner and color: one accent, one background, the same type treatment on thumbnails and overlays.
  • Tone: pick three words you sound like, and three you refuse to sound like.

Frequently asked questions

Should I change my name if I already have followers?

Only if the current name is unreadable or points at a niche you have left. Announce it, keep the old handle redirecting if the platform allows, and do not change it twice in a year.
