Finding your creator niche

A niche is the promise people recognize, not a personality transplant. Test a narrow topic until the same kind of viewer keeps showing up.

Niche is not a costume

People mix this up. Your personality is how you talk. Your niche is the job your content does for a specific person. "I am funny" is a personality. "I teach new streamers how to sound clear on a cheap mic" is a niche.

Broad topics feel safer because you never run out of ideas. They also make you interchangeable. Narrow topics feel scary because you can see the edge of the audience. That edge is where people remember you.

How to test before you commit

Pick one audience and one problem. Post eight to twelve pieces in that lane before you judge it. Look at who finishes, saves, or comes back, not at one lucky view count.

  • Write the viewer in one sentence: who they are, and what they are stuck on.
  • Make three pillars you could repeat for a month without inventing a new identity.
  • If a post only works when you leave the niche, it is a guest episode, not a new direction.
  • Pivot when the same people keep asking for a neighboring topic, not when one video is quiet.

Frequently asked questions

What if I like more than one thing?

Keep a home topic for discovery and a second topic for the people who already follow you. Random topic hopping is what makes new viewers unsure why they should stay.
