Storytelling for creators

Two shapes cover most creator stories: hook, context, conflict, payoff, or problem, journey, transformation. Use one on purpose.

Tell it in the order a stranger can follow

Hook is why they should care now. Context is the minimum they need. Conflict is what went wrong or what was hard. Payoff is the result, the lesson, or the punchline. If you start with context, you are making them wait for a reason.

Problem, journey, transformation is the teaching version. The problem is theirs, not your origin story. The journey is the steps. The transformation is what is different after. Skip the journey and you have a quote. Skip the transformation and you have a vlog.

Frequently asked questions

Does this apply to gaming and live shows?

Yes, in smaller loops. A raid, a bad round, a setup fail: hook what is at stake, show the attempt, land the result before you recap.
